Deceit

How we deceive ourselves

Pretending to Know

Demosthenes generated a number of brilliant quotes in his time, quotes that we seem incapable to find relevant even though their pertinence did not diminish. Why? What happened?
It may be helpful to remind ourselves the only monotheistic religion to have reached any amount of development in his heyday was Judaism. The single-goddedness of monotheism seems to somehow replace natural drives such as curiosity with negative emotions such as fear to thwart intellectual development. Perhaps the willingness to choose faith and deny the value of objective evidence enables the faithful to go on pretending to know the unknowable.
