Hate speech, if not forbidden, is counterproductive. While it may stir the gullible into terrible action, it turns the thoughtful against those who speak it. Beliefs, then, are not well defended by resorting to it, for wise people know of hate, terror and induced fear as the only weapons available for defending that which is not true, and assess all speech accordingly. In the practices of hedonism, hate speech is avoided because it induces pain without a promise of joy.
